Developmental Editor / Story Consultant / Writing Coach
You want to write a book. You’ve got notes, scribbles, and a great imagination but something’s just not working.
Developmental Editor / Story Consultant / Writing Coach
This is one of may favorite things to do.
Besides writing my own stories, helping others create their own is next on the list.
Let’s determine what your needs and desires are.
To help you get started with knowing what you might need, here are some questions to answer and bring to our meeting.
1) Where are you in the developmental process?
- Do you have sketches, notes, paragraphs snippets, dialogue bursts but nothing’s actually organized enough to write it?
- Are you totally stuck and can’t figure out how to even start organizing?
- Do you have a vision for the finished product? Short story sent to journals? Novel self-published? Flash fiction? Screenplay for a Short? Screenplay for a major film?
- Do you have the outline, first draft, or second or third draft done and something’s just not making it come alive?
- Have you pitched your story to multiple agents and no one’s biting?
- Has a professional developmental editor, story consultant, or writing coach read it and given you feedback?
- What has been the feedback? Take note who is giving you feedback and why you think their feedback is honest professional level feedback.
- Have you received back the same or similar feedback multiple times?
2) How do you envision us working together?
- Do you prefer to just hand in the manuscript and receive written feedback and explore your own ways to make it better?
- Do you prefer conversation one-on-one to really understand the feedback?
- Do you like to think for awhile and then have another conversation pitching your possible solutions to make it better?
3) What is your preferred method of communication and receiving feedback?
4) What motivates you to keep going and what deflates your creative drive?
